Writing 1: Ephemeral/Site
One of the ideas of that really stuck with me from this unit is how walking and going for walks is far more than just walking. As walking is no longer our primary mode of transportation and there is many other ways to move and get around now. Walking from place to place has in a way become a thing of the past but it is still something we do everyday. In walking the line it is discussed that walking in the physical world can help us navigate our mental plane as well. It is used as a form of mediation and prayer and is something that many cultures share. This idea that walking is so much more than just a thing to do physically is very interesting to me. As it is simply something we all do everyday and to think of it as something that is so much more than just what it is a interesting concept to think about. It can be a way to move through both space and through thought allowing for two means of navigation.
I mostly agree with this idea of walking being more than just walking. I agree with it because you always hear people talk about going out for a walk to clear there heads or when they need to think about something. It is just something I never really thought to deep on up until now. Because walking is a part of everyday life it something that I personally would never think twice about but I see how it can be a way to engage in deeper thought and help navigate thoughts. I do not fully grasp however why this is a thing for people. It does not make a ton sense how this can be such a mediative thing because you must also focus on walking and not running into things. You need to use your brain to walk and somewhat think where you are going and how you will get there. It is somewhat strange that an activity that requires some thought can be a way to think more and dive into deeper thought. Maybe it is because it is such an everyday task that it is something you can kind of go auto pilot mode in while doing and allow your mind to wander.
